Emma Wheeler is the daughter of Ben Wheeler and Angela Davidson. Emma was portrayed by Sura and Kayleigh Harris from season 4 to the end of the series.
Character History[]
She was conceived through a one-night stand, between her parents at a Christmas party. Her mother never revealed the pregnancy to her father, thinking she could care for the baby on her own. After her birth, her mother took to raising her alone but realized her life was unfulfilled by taking care of an infant and not pursuing her dream of being an actress.
When Emma was three months old, she was abandoned by her mother on her father's doorstep and has been living with him ever since, living the life of a Wheeler, while also being looked after by Ben's friends & family.
Relationships[]
Ben Wheeler[]
Ben is Emma's father and sole legal guardian. He did not know she existed until Emma was dropped on his doormat at 3 months old, and Ben briefly planned on letting Emma be adopted by another family who were seeking a baby. However, after spending a night alone with her, he realized he loved her and couldn't let her go. Ben then decided to step up and be the father that she deserves.
Emma lives in Ben's apartment and sleeps in the same room as him. Though all of Ben's friends and family essentially help raise her, no one questions Ben's authority as her father and defer to him on important matters regarding her. Emma's first word was "dada", which she said in House of Cards. They are often seen bonding or playing, always enjoying each other's company. Ben is fiercely protective of her, as he makes her needs are cared for and that he provides her love. Ben also stood up to Angela, stating he was Emma's only parent and he won't allow his daughter to turn out like her mother.
Danny Wheeler[]
Danny is Emma's paternal uncle, and they share a great bond. Danny was trusted by his brother to be Emma's godfather. Danny is a very fun uncle to her, as he teaches her tricks at times when spending time with her. Danny can also be protective of her as seen in "Flirty Dancing", when she is seen teaching Emma how to dance and saying the guy always leads and if the guy's hand slips any lower that her back Danny said to call him so he can break the guy's hand.
Tucker Marshall Dobbs[]
Tucker is family friend and was around when she first showed up at his apartment. He occasionally bonds with Emma and enjoys her company, specifically using her to impress beautiful women. Emma, in turn enjoys Tucker and can be seen having fun with him and smiling at her uncle figure.
Bonnie Wheeler[]
Bonnie is Emma's grandmother. She initially dotted on her when meeting her for the first time, though reveals she thinks Ben isn't ready for fatherhood and Emma is better off being adopted. She's later surprised Ben decided to keep her, though she had her reservations in "I Told You So", she was proud of Ben expressing worry and agreed to help him raise her.
Over the series, it apparent that Bonnie treasures Emma, as they are occasionally seen bonding and Bonnie often holds her. During a confrontation with her mother, Bonnie reveals her pride in the family that she has made: consisting of her boys and granddaughter.
Riley Perrin[]
Riley Perrin is the girl next door who loved Ben her whole life. Her and Ben become closer and soon becomes Emma's godmother and in the event of Ben's death, legal guardian. Riley later became Emma's aunt through her marriage to Danny, making her official family member.
